The Baltimore Orioles have always been one of my favorite baseball teams (in terms of footwear, not talent).  They are one of two teams in the league (the other being the A’s) that has traditionally worn a team accent color in their cleats, which not only makes them really look like a team, but it makes it seem like everyone is wearing a PE.

Of course, most of the models you see them wearing aren’t player exclusives… Ramon Hernandez and Nick Markakis have both worn the black / orange Under Armour Raptor, Kevin Millar and Melvin Mora have both worn what will likely be a GR black / orange colorway of the upcoming Under Armour Ignite, and a bunch of guys have worn GR 2K4’s, 2K5’s, Clippers, Reebok Wheels, adidas Diamond Kings, and so on.  Even this early Adam Jones model is an MCS version of Nike’s standard black / orange 5-Tool (it isn’t offered at retail, but here’s the catalog pic).  So, to the best of my knowledge, here are the only 2008 Baltimore Orioles PE’s:

All of these renderings can also be seen in the PE Gallery.  The bottom two Fuse models are Adam Jones’ home and away pairs… since you can make those on NikeID, I won’t waste any time writing about them.  However, the other six pairs are definitely worth talking about, and they all belong to Brian Roberts.  That’s right… six.

As you can see from the photos above, Roberts wears three of them at home and three of them at away games.  They all look great with the O’s uniforms — even the Shox Fuse with the throwbacks.  There may be something embroidered or lasered on the side of the Fuse uppers (if you know what it is, please let me know), but his Huarache 2K5 models have this logo on the strap (thanks to NT’s gotta be tha shoes for the close-up):

Additional close-up views of that MCS model can be seen here and here, and a hideous Roberts colorway that fortunately didn’t make it on the field this year (as far as I know, anyway) can be seen here.  And finally… in case you were wondering, six distinct PE’s puts Roberts in a tie with Ken Griffey Jr. for the most in 2008.  I’m betting that Jr. will beat him out… but there’s two months of the regular season to go, so we’ll see.

If I missed any Baltimore PE’s, let me know.  The team recap for August 5th will be the Boston Red Sox… check back in the evening for that.

^ I agree… I just don’t think it belongs on a baseball field. I’d probably dig that pattern on a football or basketball shoe, but solid colors just look better in baseball.

I’m one to really think that little details really make a shoe, especially in sports, and I think that Brian Roberts’ cleats are a very good example of this.

I’d love to see that safari print on the gridiron, and I’m sure Nike probably wouldn’t have a problem finding some players to wear it on their cleats.
