Over the past few years, companies have started using the MLB All-Star Game as a showcase for their new footwear and equipment. This year’s ASG carried on that tradition, and several new cleats were on display last night. (And just to clarify, even though this site is named PlayerExclusive.com, I’ll also be giving you a heads-up when new kicks hit the field or the court, PE or not.)

Here’s what we saw:

The most noticeable new model from last night was the Nike Air Max MVP. In addition to Joe Mauer above, these were worn by Ben Sheets, Dan Uggla, Edinson Volquez, Milton Bradley, Dioner Navarro, and Geovany Soto (Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday also wore PE’s of these, discussed in the All-Star Game PE post). The colorways worn by these players (all of which are in the 2009 Nike Baseball Catalog) will be available for purchase this fall, and solid colors will be available as well.

Nike also had a handful of All-Stars wearing the Show Elite MVP, shown on J.D. Drew above. The pairs worn were all black with team-colored accents; no word on whether or not all of these will be available to the public. Cliff Lee, Evan Longoria, Michael Young, and Ryan Dempster also wore these (oddly, Young and Dempster’s pairs were both black/blue… I’m surprised Nike didn’t make blue versions for them).

The biggest disappointment from the game, at least in my opinion, was the Reebok cleats worn by Jonathan Papelbon (above) and Brandon Webb. Maybe they’ll grow on me, but at first glance, the upper design looks straight out of the early 90s.  However, Joe Nathan wore a new Reebok Vero model that has potential, especially after seeing K-Rod’s PE of the same shoe (see the All-Star PE post).

Finally, Miguel Tejada wore a Mizuno model that look like they’ll be the next release in Mizuno’s Pro Limited series.
